Goldie waits all year to spend the summer at Camp Alpine Lake with her best friends Ava and Imogen。 After the terrible year she’s had, she’s more desperate than ever to escape to the place that has become her haven。 But when a body is discovered in the lake, suddenly camp isn’t the safe place Goldie always thought it was。I usually like to start my summer reading in May, and this book was the perfect way to kick off the season。 It’s a thriller that takes place at a summer camp, and now that’s all Goldie waits all year to spend the summer at Camp Alpine Lake with her best friends Ava and Imogen。 After the terrible year she’s had, she’s more desperate than ever to escape to the place that has become her haven。 But when a body is discovered in the lake, suddenly camp isn’t the safe place Goldie always thought it was。I usually like to start my summer reading in May, and this book was the perfect way to kick off the season。 It’s a thriller that takes place at a summer camp, and now that’s all I want to read。 I loved the atmosphere so much! There are flashbacks throughout the book as we slowly learn what Goldie is trying to get from in her life。 I didn’t find any of the twists predictable, which is always a plus for me with a thriller。 Overall, I had a great time reading this book, and I definitely recommend picking it up!If you’re looking for a great thriller to add to your summer TBR, this is it! It releases tomorrow, so make sure to pick up a copy。 Thank you so much Penguin Teen for sending me an ARC to read and review。 。。。more

I found The Counselors to be an immersive slow-burn thriller。 I enjoyed how it was told in alternating timelines。 I never attended summer camp but I could imagine the bonds that would have formed were much like those that Goldie did。 Part of me wishes Goldie would have been honest sooner, but I also understand her fears。 I definitely wanted to read to find out if I guessed the killer correctly! The Counselors is the perfect summer YA thriller read。 Jessica Goodman really knows how to pick fun and atmospheric settings。 This book whisks readers away an exclusive summer camp in the northeast。 The main character and her friends are counselors know but have spent every summer at this camp for the past ten years or so。 This summer everything seems a bit different though, darker and more serious。 If you're looking for a fun escape to read poolside or beachside, I definitely recommend checking The Counselors is the perfect summer YA thriller read。 Jessica Goodman really knows how to pick fun and atmospheric settings。 This book whisks readers away an exclusive summer camp in the northeast。 The main character and her friends are counselors know but have spent every summer at this camp for the past ten years or so。 This summer everything seems a bit different though, darker and more serious。 If you're looking for a fun escape to read poolside or beachside, I definitely recommend checking out The Counselors。 I need to finally get around to reading Goodman's other books as well if they're also this fun。Disclaimer: I received an advanced reader copy from Razorbill and BookishFirst in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I never wnt to sleep away camp, so it was a little hard to relate。 The story was ok, not a whole lot of depth the "mystery" and Goodies inner dialogue was repetitive and annoying at times。 There was potential, and for someone else this may be a great stoey/book/read, but for me it missed the mark。 I never wnt to sleep away camp, so it was a little hard to relate。 The story was ok, not a whole lot of depth the "mystery" and Goodies inner dialogue was repetitive and annoying at times。 There was potential, and for someone else this may be a great stoey/book/read, but for me it missed the mark。 。。。more

Clever twists - I would give The Counselors a solid 3。5 stars。 The author does a good job of putting in some clever twists and turns - the dynamics between the main character Goldie and her friends Imogen and Ava were believable and showed the stresses of class differences and what it’s like to live in a small town - I struggled some with the mystery itself because it builds and builds to only be solved in the last few pages。 I tend to find these unsatisfactory and a little too convenient。 I mys Clever twists - I would give The Counselors a solid 3。5 stars。 The author does a good job of putting in some clever twists and turns - the dynamics between the main character Goldie and her friends Imogen and Ava were believable and showed the stresses of class differences and what it’s like to live in a small town - I struggled some with the mystery itself because it builds and builds to only be solved in the last few pages。 I tend to find these unsatisfactory and a little too convenient。 I myself went to camp so found the camp descriptions to be so entertaining - color war, food raids, bonfires etc。 That made me nostalgic for those experiences。 There were a lot of characters to keep track of and shifting timelines can be hard to keep track of but they did say either Then or Now which helped some。 I think these types of books are better served to have one mystery and when there start to be multiple layered mysteries you lose that believability 。。。more

This book。 Omg。 I seriously loved it so much and didn’t want it to end。 The thing I loved most was the special bond Goldie, Ava, and Imogene had。 It was so sweet and really screamed summer and best friends。 This book was also dark! I mean, obviously, there was a murder after all。 But wow I just really didn’t expect it to go the way it did。 I had my suspicions of a few people early on that ended up being correct, but I still flip flopped the whole time。 Seriously such a good book and the perfect summer mystery。 。。。more

Having LOVED Goodman's two previous releases I knew that I had to read The Counselors。 The counselor follows Goldie throughout the story while it travels between the past and present day。 Goodman captures the essence of friendship so well as we see relationships form in the book and the endless support Goldie gets from her friends。 While this one is a little bit predictable it definitely still delviers like only a story by Goodman can。 I definitely recommend picking this up for summer if you're Having LOVED Goodman's two previous releases I knew that I had to read The Counselors。 The counselor follows Goldie throughout the story while it travels between the past and present day。 Goodman captures the essence of friendship so well as we see relationships form in the book and the endless support Goldie gets from her friends。 While this one is a little bit predictable it definitely still delviers like only a story by Goodman can。 I definitely recommend picking this up for summer if you're looking for a new thriller。 。。。more

Jessica Goodman did it again 👏🏼 with another fantastic book by her and my favorite thus far! When I heard about it being camp themed all I could think about was Jason Vorhees and AHS 1984。 This preceded my expectations to a “mysterious” camp with secrets and worst of all, murder。 It was everything I wanted and more, with a shocking ending。 The what could have been love story, was one of my favorite parts。 Highly recommend this one if your a fan of YA and her previous books!!
